September 2020 – As this year’s cycle of agave (approx. 18,000) clear the Vivero and take route in mezcalero-controlled lands, another cycle is well on its way towards next year. Our beds are nearly full already with agave Coyote, Mexicano, Cuish, Tobala, Jabali, Espadin & Espadilla, all from seed growing and being nourished towards next season. An agave’s size is important – larger means more durability and flexibility in terms of where and when it can be transplanted. This year we’ve made a jump start, germinating seeds before clearing the existing cohort of magueys.
growing from seed is so important to establish healthy, stable plants for the future (more so than transplanting “runners”). good job.
